Cambodia-Australia Agricultural Value Chain Program

overarching Goal

Promoting a commercially viable, resilient agriculture sector supporting inclusive growth

Profitable Irrigated Agriculture

Modern and affordable irrigation infrastructure is critical for a profitable agriculture sector. In this second phase of the Program, CAVAC has constructed 10 such schemes in Kandal, Prey Veng, and Takeo provinces. With its success and experience, CAVAC is now supporting RGC to improve the quality, sustainability and effectiveness of Cambodia’s other irrigation investments. It does this by providing services for RGC and other partners and raising stakeholder awareness on issues such as water resource management, scheme design, private sector partnerships, and operations and maintenance.

Competitive Agriculture Industry

If agriculture is to continue to sustain livelihoods and contribute significantly to economic growth, it is very important that the sector becomes more competitive, both domestically and internationally. CAVAC is supporting RGC to achieve this goal by helping industry to produce more quality and high value agricultural products and by supporting its government partners to provide an environment that promotes competitiveness.

About Us

About Us

CAVAC’s overarching goal is to promote a commercially viable, resilient agriculture sector that supports inclusive growth.  It aims to achieve this goal by supporting profitable irrigated agriculture and an increasingly competitive agriculture industry.

The first phase of CAVAC ran from 2010 until 2015 and was the Australian Government’s first investment using a market systems approach.  In addition to contributing to positive systemic changes in a number of agriculture sub-sectors, the Program also developed a ‘proof of concept’ approach to community-led, sustainable irrigation infrastructure.  This first phase was so successful that the Australian Government continued its investment in this second phase which runs from 2016 until the end of 2021.

With less than two years left to run, the Program remains as relevant as ever.  The COVID-19 pandemic that began in early 2020 has made the achievement of CAVAC’s long-term outcomes even more important.  As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have adverse social and economic impacts, CAVAC is well-positioned to support the Royal Government of Cambodia to achieve its food security objectives, and help the agriculture sector make its critical contribution to economic recovery.
