This component was established in 2016 at the request of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to support its rice export targets and increase its competitiveness in international markets.
To achieve this we are helping to introduce new rice seed varieties to ensure the quality and consistency required by export markets, and working with private seed companies and millers to improve the availability of quality seed.
New technologies are also being explored and introduced to help improve pre- and post- harvest handling such as mechanical seed planters.
A new rice seed planter that uses less seed, saves water and increases planting efficiency is being introduced to Cambodian farmers. A demonstration in Battambang was organised by Cambodia Agricultural Value Chain Program in partnership with the HARVEST Center Cambodia (HCC).
