The low-cost seed planter improving production efficient and rice quality

CAVAC has been supporting a number of local companies and entrepreneurs to develop and introduce direct seed planters to the agriculture sector. One entrepreneur in Siem Reap, Lonheng, is a rice farmer himself and produced this low-cost seed planter with his own tools and creativity. CAVAC provided technical support to improve the design, organised field demonstrations, and developed marketing materials. This promotional video highlights the benefits that the locally produced and low-cost ‘Lonheng Seed Planter’ offers rice farmers and seed producers.

Pest management is critical to maintaining high productivity in the agriculture sector. One of the ways that CAVAC has helped improve pest management in Cambodia was to provide technical and financial support to the Department of Agricultural Legislation to formulate a Prakas to officially regulate the labelling of agricultural plant protection products. This video highlights what the challenges are and how CAVAC worked with MAFF to address some of the key issues.

The Seed Planter Improving Rice Quality and Production Efficiency

CAVAC partnered with Harvest Centre Cambodia to promote the adoption and spread of the Thai Kid Seed Planter. When farmers use this planting machine they use much less seed, allowing them to invest in better quality seed. Rice grown with the planter is healthier and produces higher yields, all in all improving the quality of paddy output for milling and export markets.

Eli Rice Seeder uses air pressure to shoot rice seed directly into wet soil. It reduces seed rate to only 30 to 100 kg from 200 to 300 kg in manual broadcast. The tool won the Patents for Humanity Award in 2018. CAVAC supports Agri-Smart in marketing and outreach of the tool.

When her daughter was born, she could no longer work and her husband had to migrate to Thailand to earn the extra money needed to support his family.
